To mention this explicitly: Obviously you must set the controlfile_record_keep_time to a
value at least as large as your recovery window. As explained in the rman documentation.

Besides, the doc says " The only RMAN feature that is not supported in NOCATALOG
mode is stored scripts." YMMV but I don't see the replacement of "rman target=/ cmdfile=..."
with another syntax as a feature worth maintaining yet another database.
