Well I ran stats pack and 10046 traces.
On Solaris 2.8 I have 5 instances on a server. 4 instances where okay and had optimizer_mode=choose. 1 instance had optimizer_mode=first_rows.
Query runs fine with optimizer_mode=choose but not with optimizer_mode=goal. Obviously something with the optimizer changed between 9.2.0.4 and 9.2.0.3
dbms_stats are current.
I am currently evaluating 10046 before and after traces and statspack.
When I get back to work I will post before and after as with a quick scan both exection plans look the same except for the results!!!!
