Hi friends,

Just want to share with you.

I recently encounter Oracle breakdown when i upgrade my oracle from 816 to 817, Solaris from 7 to 8.
For this upgrade, if i want to use 8.1.7.4, i have to install 8.1.7.3 first then apply a upgrade patch to 8.1.7.4.

After i install and apply the patch, i found that the migration utility for 816 to 817 doesn't work. After consulting Oracle expert, the migration util is only workable with 8.1.7.3. Then i install another copy 8.1.7.3 into Solaris 8 and successfully upgrade 8.1.6 to 8.1.7.3. By changing the environment variable OraHome, i can restart my Oracle with 8.1.7.4.

As my database is v. busy, i counter oracle breakdown once per 5-6 days. Initially, i don't know what happy and just dump the trace file to Oracle support. Ora Support just ask me to change this and change that parameters, but the problem still exist after changing a lot of diff. parameters.

Luckily, i have another Solaris node under the same SunCluster which have only one oracle 8.1.7.4 in the O/S. I tried to swap my Oracle to use NODE early July.
The problem disappeared up to NOW.

This is my conclusion that 8.1.7.3 and 8.1.7.4 cannot be installed under same machine. Can any have the same finding?

Lewis Chan
