Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> OT: What's going on with all these comments by Larry Ellison....
I respect it when CEOs have something useful to say and they go to
press with it, but lately we're hearing more for Larry Ellison than
ever and he keeps making these bold visionary statements that do
little but make him appear insecure about the future of his company at
best. Not to say that he shouldn't be worried every major player in IT
(save Microsoft) should be worried. but to come out and make
statements like "software is a dead industry" (yes, I know the context
in which it was used, and maybe he was misquoted, but still being who
he is, he should have been more careful). Today on CNN's money website
there's a quote from him predicting the software industry going the
way of the automotive industry... okay I can see some parallels, but
their are vast differences from engineering on up to manufacturing,
software is as different from the auto industry as say fast food. They
share very little.
It seems to me the pressure on Ellison is showing now, I wouldn't come within 100 yards of Oracle stock right now. Also, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the next big Oracle annoncement is more along the lines or Oracle being bought than Oracle successfully buying another big name company.
