wiping out an oracle installation (8i)

Due to some mess that happened while I was trying to resurrect an 8i server I'm trying to reinstall 8i on that server.

The server installation went through but afterwards, although the services were running I got ORA 12451 No listener (number off memory) and this was probably due to existing TNSNAMES.ORA and LISTENER.ORA files that were there from a previous installation (which was a copy of the tree from another machine)

Anyway, to make a long story short: What is the safest and quickest way to wipe out an Oracle installation to such an extent that a new server installation from CD is possible.
