A week ago, I would have been proud to have said - that I would sooner nuke the storage config and re-install everything (did that more than once) than use RAID 5 for an oracle server storage volume.
Until last week that is, whereby the new disaster recovery server had
only 5 x 73 GB drives (internal), and RAID 10 was not going to provide
enough space.
RAID 5 it was.
Hopefully, it will never get used (for real) and if it does, chances
are, I won't be around to see it.
So, if you're willing to forgive one incident, I've been fighting RAID 5 since 1998 (only lost one round). Considering that I've wiped clean and re-installed (as RAID 1 or RAID 10) at least a half dozen systems that had a RAID-5 config - I'm still way ahead.
