My interpretation was that he was not asking about normal shutdown. Were that the case the default installation and a little work in /etc/rc2.d would have worked just fine.
Rather it appears he wants to have some process executed by root perform shutdowns. My statement has been that the process shutting down Oracle should be owned by Oracle, not by root.
