He's good when he does his own stuff. I saw him parrot Niemec's stuff one time and he seemed almost embarassed about it. But he certainly did better than most would have done. They are well-trained and knowledgeable, they do demo stuff, and they fulfill a market niche. When they goof, it is very public and people call them on it. I say, more power to them. They've certainly helped me enough, and for free, or close to it.

TUSC is certainly self-promoting, as is Open World. But they put on a good show, and I think it is worth it for most DBA's. In contrast, some of the other Open World stuff is just plain marketing. There is enough to choose from I think careful planning of what to attend can make Open World much more cost-effective than the training classes - of course, some of the OW courses _are_ the training classes, with all the good and bad that implies.

And I think the TUSC posters have been quite useful.
