in the world where licen$ing is an issue ... 2 CPUs of Standard Edition would list at $30,000 (per CPU licensing). 8 GB of memory for SPARC hardware? How much is that?
it seems as though the box is top heavy, and is not sitting on top of
a worthy I/O subsystem.
Sounds like a $100,000 server (w/software) with $1000 worth of disks.
maybe hawk half the ram on Ebay in exchange for a nice storage
enclosure or at least several more drives.
in intel land, one can acquire a 14 drive external cabinet full of 36 GB hard drives for under $10,000. A pair of those could keep a CPU well fed - and give you lots of options for storage layouts.
