Well, the filter is really just an external application, so I don't see why it wouldn't run with an older version of Oracle as long as ctxhx can be executed on the OS. That being said, check the licensing agreement with Oracle. Taking a newer version of ctxhx for an older version of the DB, may not be a 'legitimate exercise'.
