error creating database from template ( NT/9.0.1 to linux/9.2.0.1 .0)

Morning Hemal,

I was under the opinion that all the templates stored was a description of the files, sizes, locations etc - not the actual files themselves. However, I've just had a look at a template I created and I find that there is a small XML file called template_name.dbc and a very large template_name.djf so I suspect you are correct - the djf file does indeed contain the blank datafiles.

As this is the case, the NT format files are no use on a Linux box. Oracle will not let you transfer what are effectively binary files between operating systems and even sometimes between the same OS just on different server types - as I know from past experience.

If you really need your work template at home, then you'll need to get your DBA to crerate you a set of scripts (not a template) from the work template and running those at home. He/she/it can do this as the final stage of dbca instead of creating a new database. When you have altered the forward/backward slashes and file locations in these scripts - and possibly removed some directory creates etc, you can run them to create a database and then import your work data in the normal manner.

HTH Regards,
Norman.

Thanks for your response, Norman.

You can say that I am trying to clone a database, in the sense that I am

trying to transfer the database from work to home. The template was created at work by the DBA from the existing database and I am trying to

create a database from that template.
