You are correct, I looked at the link rajXesh posted from Ask Tom, and the object part is not needed, I cut the code down from an example where I needed a ref cursor, to a single column, and in that case a simple table of varchar2 for the type will be fine. You'll still need the cast syntax on the subselect though.
