Personally, I don't install Oracle onto a machine with SP3, but SP2. The I add SP3 afterwards.

That's probably got nothing to do with it, but I find things work that way.

I also find not using autorun, but using explorer to manually run autorun.exe from the relevant directory more reliable.

The Pentium 4 is NOT an issue for 9i, so that wasn't worth worrying about, however briefly.

Check your install CDs: try installing (even temporarily) onto another machine, and seeing if you get further than you have on this one.

How much swap space have you got? How much RAM?
