Logical Reads, Hash Joins, and Star Transformations

Having just upgraded a DW to 9iR2, I've been watching Logical Reads through the v$segment_statistics view. I was initially startled to see an enormous number of logical reads on some of the smallest dimension tables of the star schema's -- far in excess of the lio's of any individual partition of the fact tables.

Am I just seeing a predictable consequence of the use of hash joins due to star transformations here, do you think? Received on Fri Feb 21 2003 - 08:50:35 CST
