I havent heard anything regarding if they are expiring the 8i cert or not, I would think it would be a ways down the pipe, and most people I know are still running 8i and very few have moved to 9i. (Not that oracle cares about that, or perhaps thats their logic in pushing 9i?)

Most of the 3rd party vendors I deal with have only recently become 8i compatible, much less 9i.

I know someone that that got their 8 cert last year, and I think it was only last spring or so that they discontinued that certification.

In any case, if you are just getting started, I'd also say do the 9i, one less exam and I think you can even take the 1st one online.
