I was following the Oracle docs and according to that, there is no mention of /etc/rc.local however,
" Kernel Parameter Settings for Linux"..... " 9. Write a script to initialize these values during system startup, and include the script in your system init files."
If it works for you...then no need to change it. I however followed whatever was in the docs because on first reboot...I lost all my settings and had to initialize them via a script.
