Absolutely. And I pointed out that you can't get something for
nothing. Oracle's Lock Manager insists on writing data on a SELECT
FOR UPDATE.

Not sure where that's coming from but sure, I'm just pointing out the potential downsides to what you wrote:
3. Oracle has unlimited row level locks and not concept of pages or
lock escallation.
