Oh -and I meant to add... the display gets a bit alarming at times when you do this. The message 'de-installing Oracle' appears, which makes you think it's removing what was already there. But it doesn't really, so don't panic.
When I've used this technique to 'retrofit' the RAC components to a non-RAC install, the 'de-installing' message appeared for about 5 minutes, followed by 1 minute spent adding in the new components. So clearly it can't *actually* be re-installing everything in that short a time.
