Regretfully, this isn't working for me:
G"otter
...stays G"otter whatever I do, and however many key combinations I try. I've tried it in gedit, OpenOffice, file renaming via Nautilus... the works.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I get the feeling this isn't going to be easy.
