There is a known bug for 8.1.7.0.0 on NT whereby autostart
functionality could fail. As you did not indicate which patchset you
have applied, I can only assume that you are running the base release
and have not applied any patches. Log into Metalink and download the
8.1.7.4.1 and 8.1.7.4.6 patchsets. As soon as a patch is released for
the bug affecting exp/imp - download that too (its not yet available
for win32).
If you rely upon exp/imp for recovery, you may only want to patch to
the 8.1.7.2.x series, as I believe that is not affected. Check the
docs.
Read the readme.htm carefully - there are steps mentioned that are required during the dictionary rebuild.
subscribing to metalink alerts wouldn't hurt either, although I wish that I could filter out the announcements for vulnerabilities in 9iAS ...
