Anecdotal and personal experience. I have an HP9000 and a Sun Ultra on my desk. We recently had a power outage the lasted longer than the UPS: Both crashed. The Sun machine came right up without a problem. The HP required reinstalling the kernel. And this is not the first time I have experienced this behavior and according to my SysAdmin friends is not uncommon.

But in all other aspects our experience has been that HP machines are extremely stable. Boot on January first and expect it to still be running when you break for Christmas.
