Depends on O/S which you -of course- don't specify. NT has a registry setting for it. On Unix by default the file is in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs. Be aware, if you remove an aliased file, the alias isn't removed also. Hence I would consider this mechanism a bad idea, and I would locate the alias in the $ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/pfile directory, and the file in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs. You would do better also to stay OFA compliant, or you must be prepared for havoc.
