I'm going to empower your with the skills and knowledge required to solve this and many other problems all by yourself with no additional help from so-called Oracle gurus or (in my case) David Bowie connoisseurs ...

First, go to http://www.google.com

Click the Groups tab

Select comp. forum

Select comp.databases

Select comp.databases.oracle

In the search field at the top, enter in some key words that kinda describes your particular issue (perhaps in this case '8i install nothing happens'), click the search only in comp.databases.oracle.* radio button and click the Google search button.

In a matter of seconds, a whole bunch of previous posts will be listed, many of which I strongly suspect will describe and resolve your issue for you.
