There is no such requirement of hotbackups (i.e. having to recreate a controlfile). You should only ever need to recreate a controlfile if you 1) lose all current copies or 2) need to adjust certain parameters like DB_NAME or MAXLOGHISTORY. You can recover from a hotbackup just fine with your normal controlfiles.
