Big Brother has at least one script available for monitoring Oracle.

Look around at the appropriate web sites, the one we use is called "bb-oracle.sh", its header looks like this:

# Title:   bb-oracle.sh
# Author:  Greg Clough (c) 1998   (http://www.ozemail.com.au/~gclough)
# Date:    30th January 1998
# Purpose: Check the status of all ORACLE databases and report back to
#          the "Big Brother" display master.
# Usage:   * This script should be "dotted" in from the bb-local.sh script
