OK, let's be blunt. What EXACT platform are you installing on. I tried asking subtly before, but it didn't go anywhere. I only ask, because there are websites aplently out there for installs onto weird and wonderful Linux distros that take you every step of the way (not that I know every one of them!).

Er, no it didn't. You had a problem with a missing file, if I recall correctly. Which you patched up by creating a symbolic link. Which isn't ever required in real life, and therefore it was a bodged install; your configuration problems stem directly from the fact that it wasn't a textbook install.

Get the install sorted without recourse to workarounds and dodgy fixes, and your configuration will be fine.

Er, no. Not if you're doing on an unsupported distro. That's why knowing what exactly you're doing this on is so important. If it's unsupported, there will be quirks that the instructions don't cover (but not one requiring the creation of a symbolic link, IIRC).

They don't need encouragement. They are totally deranged people that like to experiment until they get it right. It's the fact of getting right that is reward enough!!

I suppose it's out of the question to suggest that you could make life for yourself infinitely easier were you simply to install a supported distro??
