Old CPUs. Old O/S. Not very much RAM. Old Oracle.

So what did they use before? Why the compulsion to use a large database product on out-of-date hardware -and an out-of-date version of said large database, too?

Of course it is. Not for speed, however, but because 8.1.7.4 is much more stable and has many more features.

Yes, it will use them, provided the O/S sees them. Does NT Server use more than 2 processors, however?

And don't forget that you are required also to adjust your licensing fees with Oracle corporation if your original licence was for a 2 CPU box.
