Hi Alistair,

OK, Plan B (version 1).

If recovering with a backup file has zip effect, but you can successful read from the so-called stuffed blocks, I would consider recreating the table by moving the bugger. There appears to be issues with the header portion of the block which doesn't have to be changed during a select or impacted by inserts into different blocks hence why those operations are hunky dory.

Issue the 'alter table stuffed_bowie move tablespace wherever, rebuild your indexes and see if the regenerated table is now clean.

If not, then Plan B (version 2a ;)
