Upgrading ORACLE 8i to 9i and OFS 3.1.2 to OFS 3.3.1

Hi,
We are in process of upgrading 8i(8.1.7) with OFS3.1.2 to 9i(9.2) with OFS 3.3.1 on the same existing windows 2000 OS server. We are only upgrading 8i database server plus OFS 3.1.2, not upgrading any tools at this time.

We would like to know the best method to upgrade the software. The cluster has two nodes running on windows 2000 server - ORACLE 8i with OFS 3.1.2.

From metalink Certify feature, that OFS 3.3.1 supports both 9i and 8i. We would like to the best order in which to upgrade the 8i and OFS 3.1.2, without going thru unwanted issues.

After reading the documentation for Oracle Fail Safe 3.3.1 in installation Appendix A (section A2) notes says that,

  1. if you are "upgrading OFS only" we do not need to remove the database from its group. Also,
  2. if we are trying upgrade both 8i and OFS 3.1.2 to 9i and OFS 3.3.1, documentation says, remove the database from its group and Upgrade OFS 3.3.1 and then add database back to the group, also indicating the order in which we upgrade OFS and 8i is not important (Appendix A section A2). Whereas chapter 1 section 1.3 recommended order for installation (figure 1-1) says upgrade 8i on node-one and then upgrade 8i on node-two and then upgrade OFS 3.1.2 on node-one and then OFS 3.1.2 on node-two. This order is kind of confusing.

If anyone had already done this procedure your experience will help us. We are doing this first on test system, and the on prod system, but the data is equally important for us.

Also, we have the following questions, for the same upgrade. 1. Is it ok two have 8i and 9i on the same windows2000 platform. Are there any known issues we should be looking into. 2. Is OFS 3.3.1 compatible with 8i and 9i at the same time, both versions of oracle running on windows 2000.

thanks in advance.
