I understand that if someone is in the UK they are not necessarily English.
Likewise if they are in the US they may not speak English well. I agree
that English may not be their primary language. However, it will put them
behind the eight ball in an English speaking country. I am not implying if
you don't speak English you are not intelligent. Speaking English and level
of intelligence and technical capabilities have nothing to do with one
another. However, if you are applying for a job at a place where the common
language is X and you don't speak it very well then you are at a
disadvantage. The same analogy is true if I tried to apply for a job in
France. I speak very very poor French. (much worse than Lone Wolf's
English) I would expect that the French company would not be putting me at
the top of the list of candidates to call to interview.
My point is that clear communication is a very important skill, regardless of the language. In the majority of jobs you have to interact with other people and if you have trouble communicating then, all else being equal, you are not as valuable.
I hope Lone Wolf gets a job and one he enjoys and pays him well. It is tough out there. Certainly in the US we are in a recession. The criticism is not out of line. He improves his chances (in those places where English is the primary language) if he improves his communication skills. Regardless of the language communication is difficult. My suggestions are meant to give him some insight and possibly help. I think one would be hard pressed to claim my tone was a harsh or an attacking one.
