We have been running it for a few months on AIX and we had several events that run every minute. We have not noticed too much of CPU consumption.

Maybe you could enable the trace and find out what it is doing. To set the trace you will need to set this (Note 37676.1) in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/snmp_rw.ora:

nmi.trace_level = 16
nmi.trace_mask = (106)
nmi.trace_directory = $ORACLE_HOME/network/trace
