Realizing it's not an answer to your question: if you haven't invested in Oracle Names so far, stop doing it now. It will not be supported in the future. The future is Oracle Internet Directory (OID), using LDAP. You can find a couple of useful documents on Metalink telling you step-by-step how to get it working. It did for me!
