I think (IMHO) in a simple environment DB2 UDB 7.2 seems to be very
easy to implement. (Assuming one has read the admin books etc)
1.Program install is very easy for DB2 ; which is not the case with Oracle(9.0.2) with its java rqmnts; In Unix, you need X windows to setup oracle(AFAIK)...Db2 install is cmdline...
2.Instance creation is a breeze in DB2 ; To an extent its similar in
Oracle too.
But Oracle can be bit intimidating.
3.In DB2 u create databases within an instance, while in Oracle , generally instance and DB are the same.I am not sure how you compare those...
4. Simple object creation: Both the DBs are very similar.
Unfortunately , no real world install is "Simple". Even if it seems to
be simple
over time, you would need to do something which is not simple; IMHO,
thats when
you need the flexibility of Oracle.Over time, once u learn the
database , these above differences cease to be an issue.Although DB2
is quickly catching up, its a Cesna compared to Oracle being the
F-16/747.
I will stop here as I think I answered ur question.May be I shouldnt have written that last paragraph...
