Drop tablespace hangs

I am trying to drop the temporary_data tablespace and the drop is hanging. This is a v7 style tablespace with "temporary contents". Not an 8i style "temporary tablespace". The session is waiting on an enqueue that SMON is holding. Why would SMON be holding an enqueue lock on anything? And what do I need to do to drop this tablespace? I need to get this space back pronto. The tablespace was offlined before I tried to drop it.
