Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Oracle8i Ent. Edtn Rel. 2 ver 8.1.6 Won't Install on Win 2000 Adv Server SP2
August 14, 2002
Hi All,
I have a real problem installing Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition Release 2, version 8.1.6 for Microsoft Windows NT/2000 from Oracle Technology Network’s Trial Version CD (Part # C13341-02). When I run the “\autorun\autorun.exe” from the Windows Start | Run control box, I don’t have any problem getting the main install/deinstall menu with the “Install/Deinstall Products”; “Explore CD”; & “Browse Documentation” menu options. However, when I select the “Install/Deinstall Products” option, the cursor briefly changes to an hourglass icon for appx. 5 seconds and then it changes back to its default pointer icon. During the time the cursor is an hourglass nothing appears to happen and I haven’t touched the computer. Also, nothing happens after the cursor changes back to its default pointer icon. The cursor changing to an hourglass and then back to its default setting is the only visible activity - nothing else. The installation program just ends without ever changing the screen display at all.
The system I’m attempting to install Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition Release 2, version 8.1.6 for Microsoft Windows NT/2000 on is as follows:
_ Dell Dimension 4400
_ Windows 2000 Advanced Server (Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 2 Build
2195)
It is the only server on a small local area network.
_ 1 gigabyte of memory
_ 2 IDE hard drives
_ 1st Disk Drive : 46 gig _ On the Primary IDE channel. _ This disk has one primary drive (C:) and an extended partition with two logical drives (D: & E:). All 3 of the drives are formatted in NTFS format. _ 2nd Disk Drive - 120 gig _ On the Secondary IDE channel. It has one extended partition with 2 logical drives. There’s a 55 gig and a 60 gig logical drive - both logical drives (F: & G:) are formatted in the FAT32 format.
I have been able to install this same version of Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition from the same CD on my Windows NT 4, SP6a computer system without any installation problems.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanking you in advance.
All for now,
