For Oracle in unix environment is available some utility to lookup
error message for each error code. I forgot the name, I've never used
it.
I prefer second way. You can download from otn.oracle.com (simple
registration, no fees, no spam) all available documentation. The one
you should look for is Oracle 8i - Error Messages. Everything is in,
number, message and simple explanation what went wrong.
