I've got 8i running on my Linux Redhat 7.1 box, in 96MB on a Pentium 233MMX. Granted, I just have a few small databases set up for testing purposes right now (I have to have something to test out my answers to people's questions). I'm also running Xwindows and Samba.

I didn't have to change my shared memory params, because my databases are small enough they fit within the defaults built into the Redhat 7.1 kernel as shipped.

If the OP doesn't know how to get the params set and the kernel compiled, at least some of the info is available on technet.oracle.com, search on "shared memory".
