Since when does .gz not mean a gzipped file? When I d/l software from Oracle (e.g. 9iR2) it is always gzipped. cpio alone will not do it, you have to gunzip it first. Netscape sometimes removes the .gz from the filename, nevertheless it is still gzipped.
