Try to find archive log. Oracle don't care where is the log... so if the archivelog is in a backuppiece, O extracts the log. If the log is already on disk, O do not extract the log.
If the log is not know by Rman, u have to catalog it (manually).
In fact, u should not have the archive log on disk if there are in a backuppiece. U can drop it automatically (the log) after the backup.
