Now, this is true. The java architectures promise, database independence, platform independence, yada yada yada. I want compiler independence.
Hey, java has some real power, but it also brings along with it too many architects and abstracted layers. In the end, clients could give a crap whether the thing is written in java or cobol. It just needs to work with reasonable performance.
