If this is on NT or better yet 2k, don;t worry, just make the folder
you copy the backup to Compressed.  This will do all you need.  Then
have your backup program use it's compression when it puts in on Tape
or Phase (or whatever you backup to)  This will be faster and handled
all for you at the nice OS layers.
