I noticed that there was no TNS information for the created database!
I decided to try to edit the database details in the Configuration
Assistant, but it said I didn't have sufficient permission. I then tried to
delete the database (all files) - which I did have permission for! However
it left behind a number of files which meant that I had to manually delete
the directory.
I then tried creating a database and selecting the New Database option - I
had to stop it after it had spent 10 minutes creating the data dictionary
views and 20 minutes adding the JVM (it was still adding it)!
I'm going to try one more time - doing another clean install of Windows 2000
Advanced Server, SP2, and then Oracle 9i.
Can anyone suggest anything that may help at all?
