Starting to use 8.0 now? Oracle 8 has been desupported. So using
Oracle 8 instead of Oracle 8i is a redundant move, where your employer
is still using desupported software.
If you start to study 9i, this means you will bang your head against
the wall multiple times per day because the feature you have learned
doesn't exist in 8.0.The 8i documentation comes with a separate manual
outlining the differences (so refer to http://otn.oracle.com), the
same may apply to 9i.
If you care about your resume and your market value, it would be advisable to leave that employer at the earliest convenience. If, for some reason, they kick you out, you will regret you have stayed.
