Not quite what you are after, but Jonathan Lewis' "Practical Oracle 8i"
basically says they are a waste of time (paraphrasing wildly)... and (for
what it's worth) I tend to agree.  Worth a look -good to know both sides of
the story (and it's a good book anyway!).
