Check the alert log for any error messages...

A select * from table will not be affected by any locks that other users' insert,update or delete statements may cause; the
data you get is a view of the data as it existed at the moment the query was processed..Locks usually will not affect select
statements ( except for 'select ... FOR UPDATE'  types)
