I agree pretty much with what the other posters have said. I would add, be wary of fee based scams. There have been a number of schools and other organizations that take your money with the promise of a job, then take off.

There are good training/retraining programs out there, just use your critical eye - some of them are more valuable for teaching how to be a professional than the actual technical training. Talk to everyone you know to get to the people that are looking for workers - don't forget your previous customers and their relatives. Go to local user group meetings and be active.
