I'm trying to install the Oracle 8.7.1 client utilities on a web server
that is going to connect to a remote database. I'm stuck on the initial
install. When running the runInstaller script the process never seems to progress
and stays stuck on the following response:
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from
../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please
wait.
While checking the process table I see that there are four processes related to this install. Here's the output:
000 S oracle 21577 21435 0 69 0 - 362 wait4 13:52 pts/1 00:00:00 ./runInstaller 000 R oracle 21578 21577 99 80 0 - 68026 - 13:52 pts/1 00:00:11 /d0/downloads/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/l 040 S oracle 21582 21578 0 69 0 - 68026 do_pol 13:52 pts/1 00:00:00 /d0/downloads/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/l 040 R oracle 21583 21582 99 78 0 - 68026 - 13:52 pts/1 00:00:11 /d0/downloads/Disk1/stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/l
In the /tmp directory I see the OraInstall directory but it's empty.
