Since RMAN became possible without needing a recovery catalog, its become far more accessible as a simple 'all I need is the last backup' solution which many people are more than happy with.

If you've got a enterprise tape backup solution in place (NetBackup et al), then RMAN is very very sweet...But even without it, besides the little bit of reading (and subsequent testing) required, its a top product.

My opinion is that people haven't adopted it simply because they've already got scripts that work fine already - so they don't bother with the change.
