unable to log in to SQL*Plus to connect to the local database

Dear all,

I've installed Oracle 8i from a CD that came with the Sybex study guide. And have been trying to log in to sql*plus to practice the commands but, no luck.

Below is the information

    Database Name===============BNA
    System Identifier for the Database===MILESTONE     SYS Account Password==========change_on_install     SYSTEM Account password=======MANAGER

based on the above information how can I log in to Sql*Plus.
