Mr.Bakker...
Ok,, I haven't blamed the vendor at any point of time.. If I were to point the vendor,, I would not have attempted to install it in the first place. I am just narrating my experience I had had with the installation and was quite upset because it did not go well as planned when I made sure I had all the hardware that is required.( I even missed a get-together just to install this....)
Actualy, I pay attention to every mail of yours in this newsgroup and work on it if possible...
Well, here is the deal... I downloaded linux81701.tar (536,980 kb) from otn.oracle.com( http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle8i/htdocs/lin uxsoft.html ) and the installation guide did not mention how to install from a TAR file but only from CD. So I followed the instruction from http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/ and carefully compiled each step. However when I ran ./runInstaller the Welcome Screen did not pop up even after 2 hours.
My linux version is RedHat 7.2( I installed RedHat 7.0 first and upon the messages in newsgroups I installed RedHat 7.2 from scratch). Yes the product is certified against the O/S and I bent on it only after I posted it in newsgroups.
I am just venting out my depression just because there is no clear-cut procedures as how to install it given a TAR or from a CD.
Also, my deadline is getting posponed from end of November to end of Decmeber which is fast approaching and I am still lagging behind...
Please help as much as you can...
Thanks
Jack...
